Brief Introduction on Zhang JiaChuan Charity Servi Brief Introduction on Zhang JiaChuan Charity Service Center

Founded in 2002 (registration No. 2028127-7), Zhang Jia Chuan Charity (be called “center” for short) is a Muslim Charity organization , with its headquarter in Zhang JiaChuan Hui Autonomous county, Gansu Province, China.
The main objective of the center is to help Muslims in the most impoverished regions in China attain a better livelihood. The center is able to carry out its function by  cooperating with charity organizations both at home and abroad. The charity is funded by donations from overseas individuals, organisations as well as locals.
The donation goes towards assisting poor and needy Muslims living  in the following provinces of western China  namely: Gansu , Qinghai, Yunnan, Xinjiang and Ningxia. Relief work and help is also extended to other regions in China as well.
Presently the center is working on the following areas:
• Provide cash  assistance to poor students from primary to tertiary level.
• Monthly cash allowance for orphans, the old and disabled.
• Solve long –term drinking water problems in arid areas.
• Assist the sick to seek medical attention especially those living in the remote mountainous regions.
• Assist in constructing and repairing mosques and schools.
The center is a truly voluntary organization. There are  118 volunteers of which 38 are fully active members. With the help of sincere volunteers and charity organizations, the center manages to make rapid  progress since its inception in 2002.
Some of the achievement  during the past four years are as follows:
• Distributed RMB 730,000  to 769 orphans from primary to high school level. Helped 50 university students to further their studies.
• Supported  2,166 poor Muslim families totaling  9,747 persons to solve their livelihood and living condition.
• Cooperated  with local government to provide drinking water to 15,000 families in 15 villages, 4 towns, and 2 counties. Project costs over RMB 5 million and is in progress to solve the drinking water problem for both men and domestic animals.
• Built two orphanages, maintained 7 mosques and 3 schools.
Distributed  “zakat”, performed Qurban , and distributed meat to the poor and needy during the Id festivals. RMB  1,690,000 was distributed to more than 800,000 beneficiaries.
• Invested RMB 35,000 to help farmers grow traditional Chinese medicinal herbs.
• Relief Work –Distributed 200,000 clothings and daily used articles.
Performed Qurban totaling  208 cows and 2,210 sheep during Aidil Adha , and distributed the meat to 438 mosques. More than  400,000 Muslims benefited from this scheme.
5. Distributed Iftar and zakat  during fasting month to over 200,000 Muslims.
The center has won wide attention and assistance from Muslim organizations  both at home and abroad.  We received assistance from Hongkong, UK, Singapore, The United Arab Emirates, Malaysia, Germany, Kuwait etc.
It is most encouraging that in 2005 the center stood out from 20,000 competitors from all over China in the “China Market- Development Project” jointly held in Beijing by the World Bank, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Civil Affairs and  Poverty-Alleviation Office of the State Council of China. The center attended the Beijing Exhibition as one of the 100 invited organizations, and also the only Muslim NGO.
There are more than 30 million Muslims in China today, among whom 85% are living in the poor western areas, with abominable production and living conditions. There are 1,620,000 Muslims living in Xi Hai Gu area which is the common boundaries of Gansu,Qinghai, and Ningxia. This region is described by the UN as uninhabitable.
As of now the center has received application for financial aid  from 80 university students , 1,648 orphans from western areas and south-western areas (including Inner Mongolia);  and 164 applications for repairing and constructing mosques, 158 applications to repair and renovate schools;  120 applications covering 1,000,000 impoverished Muslims for solving drinking water problems, etc. In the light of such huge problem,  Zhang JiaChuan Charity will try its best to help, and also hope to get help from Muslims all over the world.
